Paragraphs 178-181 of The Phenomenology of the Mind
After reading sections 178-181 and reviewing your notes from class today, write a 3 sentence summary of what you think Hegel's main ideas are within the Phenomenology of the Mind. No more, no less than 3 sentences.
Hegel tells us that the way a man becomes self conscious of himself is through the outward knowledge of himself by others. Through this, we move from the phenomena (experiences) to the noumena (truths). Without this outward influence, a man could never know himself.
Hegel has said man learns about his self conscious by the knowledge of himself given from others. From, this knowledge man moves away from phenomena, experiences, to noumena, truths. For, without outside perceptions of oneself; man will never truly understand himself.
Hegel describes to us that self-consciousness exists for one another and only exists when it is acknowledged by another human, not oneself. Hegel also explains how self-consciousness has formed into a different self-consciousness, with the later one finding itself in the other by seeing its own self in the other form of self-consciousness. Self-consciousness also let's go of the other one and supersedes it, supplying a better form by the addition of new things in relation and respect with the other self-consciousness.
I think that Hegel is saying the mind is only as powerful as it realizes it is. However when you are able to open your mind and strive to know more, it can gain a deeper sense of life. On the contrary when you become close-minded you can actually lose your "mind."
Human reason is coming to know itself through history. Our mind is constantly becoming and attempting to reach maximum capability by first becoming subjective and then moving onto an objective set in which it is out-of-itself and instead experiences all around it. Once the mind has reached absolute capacity through others as well as the truths and history it becomes grounded in art, religion, and philosophy.
Through Hegels theories on phenomena and noumena he sends his message that our conscience mind will only do what we believe it can do. The mind begins to des tribute its knowledge into categories like politics or religion once it has reached its max capacity. When you allow your mind to reach its full potential you begin to find a deeper sense of knowing yourself.
Hegel explains how self-consciousness has formed into a different self-consciousness, with one finding itself in the other by seeing its own self in the other form of self-consciousness. Our minds are only as strong as we know it. But if we open our minds then we are making it more capable to attain more knowledge and there we come to find the true meanings.
Hegel tells us that the only way we can be self conscious about ourselves threw outward experience. We use experiences to find truths about ourselves also. We have to use our out of body experiences to find our true selves.
Hegel explains how self-conciousness allows us to form different ideas about others and ourselves. Our levels of intelligence can only going as far as our mind allows us. However, if we open our minds to different ideas through self-conciousness, we will be able to grow our intelligence much greater than if we had not been open to new ideas.
Hegel tells us and elaborates on how self-consciousness allows us to form different ideas about ourselves and others. Our intelligence can only going as far as our mind wills it to, it's all a matter of determination. If we open our minds to different ideas through this idea of self-consciousness, we'll be able to enhance our intelligence far beyond where we would have been we had not been open to new ideas.
Hegel explains that our self consciousness makes us more aware of our problems and the problems of others, sometimes creating solutions. Our intelligence can only me stretched as far as our minds will allow it. If we allow ourselves to be more self conscious, we can allow our minds to expand and create new ideas.

Hegel talks about how self-consciousness allows us to become aware of our surroundings. Our level of intelligence is determined upon how much we are willing to learn. If we allow our mind to be open to new experiences and ideas, we may learn more about not only ourselves, but the whole world.
Having self-consciousness allows us as humans to be aware of who we are. However, do to our limitations, we will never completely know our full self. If we as humans use our rationality we may be able to understand what others may not easier.
Hegel talks about self-consciousness being faced with another conscious to find ones self. Then he moves to supersede other independent beings to become a more essential being. Lastly, he says in order to become an equal to ones self you must become equal with more than just you.
Interaction between each other is how we as people gain a better understanding of who we each are. From being around one another we enhance in our similarities and also differences. Negative aspects that are unknown to us if we our by ourselves can be seen by others.
There talking to others is how we gain a better understanding of who we are as a person, and what makes us up.By us being around each other we better each other and gain a better knowledge and understanding of things.
Hegel talks about how our consciousness is what gives us identity. Being aware of everything around us allows one to understand and react. This is what is unique about humans, being able to evaluate and make a logical response to a phenomenon.
Hegel gives us the idea that we all have self-consciousness, but it exists when it is acknowledged by other humans. Through this acknowledgment, self consciousness transforms into something different. It takes what it learns from others and implements those perceptions, making it a new self-consciousness.

Hegel acknowledges that we gain more knowledge of our selves through interactions with others. He realizes that through human limitation we will never know ourselves completely. By using rationality we will come to know more possibly the world.

ReplyDeleteWe need others to form our identity. We as humans are limited. But through the rational process we can get farther than most.
