Friedrich Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche

First published Fri May 30, 1997; substantive revision Fri Apr 29, 2011
"Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900) was a German philosopher of the late 19th century who challenged the foundations of Christianity and traditional morality. He was interested in the enhancement of individual and cultural health, and believed in life, creativity, power, and the realities of the world we live in, rather than those situated in a world beyond. Central to his philosophy is the idea of “life-affirmation,” which involves an honest questioning of all doctrines that drain life's expansive energies, however socially prevalent those views might be. Often referred to as one of the first existentialist philosophers along with Søren Kierkegaard (1813–1855), Nietzsche's revitalizing philosophy has inspired leading figures in all walks of cultural life, including dancers, poets, novelists, painters, psychologists, philosophers, sociologists and social revolutionaries." 1. Fate of bad Conscience
Nietzsche is introducing us to a new idea of people's view of morality. Nietzsche tells how some people may view traditional virtues as hinders on those how are meant to b great. The people who are meant to reach this higher position through less restrictions are "masters" and those working under them still clinging to this limiting growth system as "slaves"

    Sin and the ascetic Ideal
When the masters are in power their use of it is evident in time to the slaves as why they look a the master's as evil. The master in turn must realize how the slaves suffering will affect his position so the master must direct there view of what is evil in there eyes to the slaves themselves. This is what Nietzsche considers the origin of the idea of "sin" as a method of the masters of the world directing slaves suffering on themselves so to keep them in there place.

  2. The fate of bad conscience
In the second story Nietzsche talks about the past and the importance of honoring your debts. He is only concerned with evolution of the human mind. He also discusses the history of responsibility. People believe that they need something to fear like God. Does he believe that we need a God?
    Sin and the ascetic ideal
He believes that our sense of guilt comes from our past and history. He talks about how we are able to suffer but we cannot able to with stand senseless structure. He also believes that we are made our of fullness.

  3. Fate of bad conscience
In the first section Nietzsche calls in to question the ideas that people have on morality. He brings up the idea that maybe what we have seen a good is not really good. We see a different position of people depending on what they have, like portion in social classes. Being limited brings up another case and they are viewed as the workers in the world.

    Sin and the ascetic ideal
We see Nietzsche mention the idea of masters and slaves. The masters use their time in order to work the slaves. The master is viewed as evil by the slaves. He sees this distinction as a way to show the distinction between the two. This could be considered the origin of sin in human nature.

  4. Good, Bad, and Evil: Nietzsche is basically saying that being good or bad is relatively pointless. It's all perspective. Bad people say that they are bad so good people don't strive to be like them. The idea of being good is all the good people need, which makes them stagnant in there roles of being less than the bad people.

Fate of bad conscience: Responsibility weighs on the human being. This feeling of necessary labor drags against us, causing an inner war. Nietzsche uses this to discredit religion. Those that create these moral constraints don't have to follow them like those they impose them upon do. Thus creating an unfair burden of morality on people.

Sin and the ascetic idea: Nietzsche's gives us examples of how the religious used morality to hold themselves above the poor. They were able to wash their clothes and take liberties the poor weren't given. The poor suffered while the most "moral" people among them were prospering. This furthers Nietzche's critique of religion.

  5. It is the false of bad conscience
He shows the how you need to be humble and also shows the new viewed points of how morality is supposed to be. He tells of how people may contain different view points of the mind as it evolves, and the traditional virtues that are presented. To him All masters have less regulations with slave of limited options. We can sometimes to reflect apron past historical things that we were involved apart of

    Sin and the ascetic ideal
He shows and tells about how much punishment we can take. The master must realize what the servant goes through. He also tells that we are all created of promise and the will to be great

  6. Good, bad, and evil - Nitzsche proposes the idea of a society in which ther are two classes of people, the leaders and empowered people through the power of will and action, and the class of people who are at the bottom of the chain who are the slaves and rejects of society. Their ideas of good and bad are different than what they are today, they do not have any means of morality. Good is approval to a lifestyle while bad is an expression of the people's reality as a failure from the perspective of the greater. This is opiniated and flipped in the eyes of the slaves.

The fate of bad conscience - Nietzsche identifies a type of human obligations that are innate within every human, and how one responds to those obligations is what defines who they are and what class of humanity they will fall under. People's conscience will help them pick their path of action. How much guilt they possess defines who they are from a moral standpoints. Humans recognition and recollection of original and new thought are how they can stay in the line of the will, from previous scenarios.

Sin and the ascetic ideal - Human thought is a type of animalistic psychology, with a certain nature of morals regarded for actions that take place. As history has gone on, so has the mindfulness to guilt and morality, people giving more attention to what they do. Nietzsche says that it is due to the rise of religious orders and the actuality of them. Priests are growing in numbers along with the amount of churches in existence. This results in people being more aware of what they say and who they are because of the feeling of being watched by others more carefully. A sinner is acknowledged more today for their action, not who they are.

  7. Good, Bad, and Evil: Nietzsche tells us to imagine society as split into two parts. There are masters and the slaves. Those who are good live in power and live to their full potential. The bad refers to those people who lack the drive to figure out their full potential. Slaves figure that they are the way they are because of the masters so they think of the masters as evil. In reality, the slaves are simply making excuses as to why they can not figure out their own abilities.

The fate of bad conscience: Nietzsche is interested in guilt and the conscience. The ability to remember things of the past and think of the future are essential in humans. Nowadays some humans' minds are dull and unwilling to critically think. The only way that humans can evolve and develop is through a constant struggle to find truths. Bad conscience, for Nietzsche, comes to be by repressing the mind and not letting it grow by thinking.

Sin and the ascetic ideal: Priests are a part of the master class in a different way then the average master. Priests help slaves understand why they suffer as they do. He slaves blame the masters for their hardships but the priests convince the slaves that they should blame themselves for their misfortune because they are sinful. Nietzsche believes we should say yes to life in order to live at our peak.

  8. Good, Bad, and Evil: Nitzsche proposes an idea of two class for society, those who are in power because will and action, and those who are the bottom for following. Moral means are not there in either of the classes, rather his or her perspective of good and evil change. Good will improve live while bad is failure in the human's reality. In this reality those who are at the bottom feel those who are in power are evil. However to Nitzsche those who are at the bottom are to lazy to use there abilities to reach the level of his or her master and that is why the complaints come about.
The fate of bad conscience: Guilt and the conscience were very fascinating to Nietzache. Being about to remember and think of the future are apart of human life. However, Nietzache feels that some minds dull to the point of not doing critical thinking. Humans develop through constant struggles in order to find truth in the world. A bad conscience, comes by dulling mind to a point where growth will not happen.
Sin and the ascetic ideal - As humans history progress, the mindfulness of guilt and morality has as well. Nietzsche claims that religious orders have brought this to come about; priests cause people to become more aware of who he or she is because of the idea of sin. Sin is an idea invented to keep the poor in their place.

  9. The idea proposed by Nietzsche of a society in which there are two classes of people, the leaders and empowered people through the power of will and action, and the class of people who are at the bottom of the chain who are the slaves and rejects of society. However to Nietzsche those who are at the bottom are to lazy to use there abilities to reach the level of his or her master and that is why the complaints come about.

The feeling of necessary labor drags against us, making our inners subside against each other. Nietzsche uses this to discredit religion. Those that create these moral constraints don't have to follow them like those who impose upon them do. Humans develop through constant struggles in order to find truth in the world. The only way that humans can evolve and develop is through a constant struggle to find truths.

The mindfulness to guilt and morality has gone much like how history has, which has been giving people more attention to what they want to do. This is due to the rise of religious orders and the actuality of them. Priests are growing in numbers along with the amount of churches in existence. And with this they are helping people realize of who they because of what they do.

  10. Good, Bad, and Evil: Nietzsche stresses that we are broken up into two categories: masters and slaves. The category that we should all strive to be in is where we are living to our full potential. The bad category is for those who do not strive to be the best and are content with who they are. The people in the bad category essentially make up excuses for their inability to be better.

Fate of Bad Conscience: Nietzsche is obsessed with the conscience and our guilt. He thinks that our ability to think and remember the past and also being able to think for the future is essential to our being. However, Nietzsche is weary of the mind and how dull it has become. This is due to a lack of thinking. Nietzsche proclaims that with a thinking brain, we can develop and evolve.

Sin and the aesthetic ideal: Nietzsche describes Priests as being figures that manipulate the lazy category into hopefully changing their ways. The priests manipulate by having the lazy category understand that it is their fault and not another person's fault. And so being able to change and live at our fullest, we must accept life and welcome it.

  11. Good bad and evil
Nietzsche breaks society into groups: masters -military and politically dominant
and slaves- submissive to the masters. The masters use the term "good" to represent the "bad" they partake in,these activities include drinking, brawling, wenching, and hunting. Good is used to approve the way they live and how others should live as well. They refer to slaves as "bad" because they can't maintain the same lifestyle the masters live. Slaves use the term "evil" to disapprove the lifestyle masters live. So in a cycle slaves know they are good because they are the opposite of masters who are evil. In their eyes good is not living an exuberant lifestyle.

    Fate of bad conscience
Nietzsche first develops his idea of a conscience - one that weighs, calculates, and anticipates. Man to Nietzsche is one that denotes value. He then goes onto detail the origins of a bad conscience, he believes guilt derives from debts. Nietzsche imagines us animals that can recall the past and anticipate the future.

    Sin and the aesthetic deal
This section is about how humans have come to the realization that their actions are the result of the choices they have made. Notably the feelings of guilt and morality is drawn into the consideration of choice making. The priests taught slaves that the masters aren't fault but they are. The origin of sin comes from how the masters reflect what they see as evil onto the slaves.

  12. Good, Bad, and Evil
Nietzsche provides an idea of a society in which there are two separate classes of people. There are the leaders and empowered people through the power of will and action, and there is the class of people who are at the bottom of the chain who are the slaves of society. Their ideas of the "good" and the "bad" are different than what they are today and they do not have any means of morality. However, to Nietzsche, those who are at the bottom are too lazy to use their abilities to reach the level of his or her master and that is why the complaints come about.

    Fate of Bad Conscience
The feeling of necessary labor drags against us. It makes our inners subside against each other. Nietzsche uses this to go against religion as a whole. Those that create these moral constraints don't have to follow them like those who impose upon them do. Humans develop through constant struggles in order to find truth in the world. The only way that humans can evolve and develop is through a constant struggle to find truths.

    Sin and the Aesthetic Deal
As human history continues to progress, their mindfulness of guilt and morality has as well. Nietzsche claims that religion has brought this to come about. Priests, therefore, cause people to become more aware of who he or she is because of the idea of sin. Sin is an idea invented to keep the poor in their place.

  13. Good Bad and evil- Nietzsche is trying to point out how there are good and bad people in the world. In reality, it does not matter what side you are in, but how you act in the group. The good people may be seen as better because the bad people look at them in that way. The bad do no really have a reason for doing so, other than laziness, and excuses.
Fate of bad conscience- There is a relativity in the view of our conscience. We may see as one person as good, but they may be a bad person conscientiously. For ourselves we must be able to expand on our knowledge, and conscious. We can do this by challenging ourselves to find the truth.
Sin and aesthetic ideal- in this Nietzsche critics the view of priests. As history has gone along people have become more aware of their conscious and if religious their sin. Therefore creating the need for more priests. Nietzche points out how priests look at the sins of people and their action, rather than helping progress themselves as a human being.

  14. Good, Bad, and Evil
Nietzsche provides an idea of a society in which there are two separate classes of people. There are the leaders & empowered people through the power of will & action. Also there is the class of people who are at the bottom of the chain who are the slaves of society. Their ideas of the "good" and the "bad" are different than what they are today because they do not have any means of morality. However, to Nietzsche, those who are at the bottom are too lazy to use their abilities to reach the level of his or her master which is why the complaints come about.

    Fate of Bad Conscience
The feeling of necessary labor drags against us. It makes our insides subside against each other. Nietzsche uses this to go against religion as a whole. Those that create these moral constraints don't have to follow them like those who impose upon them do. Humans evolve through constant struggles in order to find truth in the world. The only way that humans can evolve and develop is through a constant struggle to find truths.

    Sin and the Aesthetic Deal
As human history continues to progress, their mindfulness of guilt and morality will also. Nietzsche claims that religion has brought this to come about. Therefor, priests cause people to become more aware of who he or she is because of the idea of sin. Sin is an idea invented to keep the poor in their place.

  15. Nietzches big thing is the good bad and evil and portray the message that nether. Are essentially bad or good it's the individual people within these categories which can act in good or bad ways. It all boils down to perspective the bad might think that the good are bad and the good might see the bad as good.
Nietzches fate of bad conscience is one of the arguements used to describe why there is no God and he also states that in a way it makes us fight against ourselves, through finding truths we grow with our experience
The sin and the aesthetic deal describe the human faults which come along with our progressing race like guilt or morality which is mostly brought out by people's beliefs .which is why priests are credited for changing people.

  16. Nietzsche proposes the idea of a society in which there are two classes of people, the leaders and the people who are the "slaves" and of society. Their ideas of good and bad are different than what they are today. There were no limits to how good and bad were defined previously in time, however, Nietzsche believes that those who are at the bottom are to lazy to use there abilities to reach the level of his or her master. For this reason, they complain of inferiority and a lack of benefits the masters receive.

The feeling of necessary fights against humans. Nietzsche uses this to discredit religion. Those that create these moral constraints don't have to follow them like those who impose upon them do. This can be exemplified with regards to the slaves and the masters. The masters will create rules they do not have to follow, but these "slaves" will have to abide by the rules daily. Humans are constantly struggling to find truth in the world and where they fit within society. The only way that humans can evolve and develop is through a constant struggle to find truths.

The mindfulness to guilt and morality has progressed in the same fashion as history. This is due to the rise of religious orders. Priests are growing in numbers along with the amount of churches in existence. These Priests and Churches are giving humans opportunities to understand the world and find their place within society.

  17. Good, bad, and evil - Nietzsche makes the point that being good or bad is all in how the people view it. Then talks about how the good and bad people do not try to be like one another. Lastly, it talks about how all people have their roles in society no matter if they are good or bad.

Fate of bad conscience - In the first part it talks about how people view morality. It then moves to what we see as good has the possibility to be bad for some. So then we think on the question if anything is truly good or bad?

Sin and the ascetic ideal - the start of this section talks about those on the master class and how the people in this class differ from what others are normally in. It then talks about how less fortunate people blame the priests and religion for their problems in life.

  18. Good bad and Evil:
Nietzsche proposed the idea of a society with two social classes. One of the classes is the class of the wealthy and the other is the class of the poor, who are under the command of the rich. Their perception of good and bad is totally different than how we perceive them today. Their perceptions are viewed without morality, because that is what they lack.

  19. Good, Bad and Evil
Nietzche talks about the conflicting viewpoints of what is good and what is bad.He explains the role that these different people have in society. There is more of a inferiority complex in today society. The means of morality have also changed.

Fate of Bad Conscience: The feeling of necessary constantly eats at human beings Nietzsche was very interested in guilt and conscience.Humans often struggle with conscience begins they are simply trying to fit in .People also struggle with determining what classifies as a bad conscience.
Sin and the ascetic ideal - This is the mindful recognition of guilt . This and morality comes to be through human progress.Priest and churches offer guidance to the confused. They also offer answers to the numerous feelings and questions about guilt and sin.

  20. Fate of Bad Conscience
Our conscience is filled with all kinds of emotions. However, guilt is the one that Nietzche seems most fascinated with and involved with. A bad conscience is a tough kind to understand. People wish to know what differentiates a good and bad conscience, and what makes it feel guilt.

    Good, Bad and Evil
People view good and bad in many different ways. Nietzche attempts to understand the different viewpoints that different people have on this topic. Morality is a major part in this conflict, and in today's society it is hard to know what really is good or bad.

    Sin and Ascetic Ideal
This is another realization of guilt that someone has. This is through the recognition of humans moving forward. Priests and churches offer many viewpoints to what truly is good or bad in someone.

  21. 1. Nietzsche talks about how life is still divided into two classes, a working slaving class and a dominant group of "masters". The masters are power hungry individuals who strive to gain more power. The masters then represent the good portion while the workers are the evil portion. On the other hand the masters are actually living life in an evil way and the workers are actually the good portion.
    2. Nietzsche was also concerned and infatuated with the evolution of the mind. He studied bout where feelings and responsibilities come from. He also studies human memory and the conscience. There is a good conscience and a bad conscience that leads a human's life.
    3. Nietzsche also wants to know where guilt comes from. Sin is the representation of the bad conscience reciprocated through a human's life. People such as priests help others people to return to the good conscience ideal.
